  1.   2. The Management Team would like to welcome Cardiff Metropolitan as one of the Eight Welsh Universities to participate in the Centre.  This adds institutional and intellectual breadth as the team from Cardiff Metropolitan are forensic psychologists. Their representative is Dr. Andy Watt.
  3. Conference announcement: The Newport Centre for Criminal and Community Justice will be holding a one-day seminar on Friday 27th April 2012.  The title is 'From Victim Policy to Victim Oriented Policies: theory and practice for different victim groups'.  If you would like further information, please go to Newport Conference.

  10. Managing the Night Time Economy in Wales: The Welsh Government and the Association of Chief Police Officers in Wales (ACPO Cymru) are hosting two events in 2012, one in South Wales and one in North Wales.  Applications to register are now being accpeted for the South Wales event which will be held on Monday 30th January 2012 at the Swalec Stadium, Cardiff.  Guest speakers include: Professor Jonathan Shepherd, Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Director of the Violence Research Group; and Professor Mark Bellis, Director of the Centre for Public Health, Liverpool John Moores University.  There will also be a variety of workshops.  Spaces are limited - you can apply by e-mailing Inspector Lisa Gore, All Wales Police Forces Substance Misuse Coordinator, on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. On 12th December 2011, the Centre jointly hosted with YJB Wales a high-level 'trialogue' (ie. a one-day seminar bringing together academics, policy-makers and practitioners) on improving resettlement outcomes for young people leaving youth custody.  The speakers were Frances Done (Chair of YJB), Sarah Cooper (Head of Youth Justice, Welsh Government), Professor Paul Senior (Sheffield Hallam University), Helen Mercer (Resettlement Programme Manager, YJB), Dr Neal Hazel (Salford University), Serena Jones (Gwalia), Rob Bevan (HPP/YOI Parc), and Chris Bowes (Wrexham YOS).  Copies of the powerpoints and recordings of the talks will be available on this website shortly.
  12. EuroVista is a Europe-wide journal dealing with issues around probation and community justice. It has strong links to CEP, the European Organisation for Probation.   13. The second Wales Criminology Conference was a great success with presentations from academics, practitioners and policy makers and delegates from these constituencies throughout Wales as well as some international contributions. Audio recordings and Power point slides from the plenary papers are now available here. Recordings of some of the other presentations will be available soon.
  14. A Highly successful international symposium was organised by the violence network (Dr Fiona Brookman, WCCSJ violence network and Professor Martin Innes, UPSI) on Monday 6th June at Cardiff University. Speakers included academics and practitioners from Wales, England, Australia, the USA and The Netherlands. Several papers will be published in a special issue of Policing and Society and it is hoped that the links will lead to an international network in this field.
