This covers a range of topics around how offenders are dealt with, including policing prosecution, sentencing, probation, prisons, rehabilitation and resettlement. Like the treatment of young offenders, these raise important questions about the relationship between devolved and non-devolved powers. There is particular strength in Welsh universities in studies of probation and the resettlement of prisoners, including the role of the private and voluntary sectors in such work and such research projects are too numerous to enumerate. This group will explore the discussions concerning, for example, the structure of policing in Wales, the policy interfaces between policing, courts, probation and incarceration between Wales and England and within Wales between these and devolved services such as social services, health and education.
